Tactile Filmmaking Workshop: Cyberpunk Sounds

In honor of our Cyberpunk exhibition closing April 12, we welcome filmmaker and educator Andrew Kim to the Shirley Temple Education Studio, where he shows us how to build our very own Atari Punk Console—a simple sound synthesizer, perfect for generating gritty sci-fi textures.

In the second half of the workshop, we create and record a cyberpunk-inspired film score using a variety of synthesizers, both analog and digital.

Each participant receives a synthesizer kit to take home. This workshop welcomes participants ages 15 and up.

Tactile Filmmaking Workshop: Direct-on-Film Animation

Make a camera-less movie by animating directly on 16mm film. Experiment with simple materials such as markers, tape, pushpins, and ink to create your own vibrant, moving-image collages on celluloid film. We’ll edit the individual strips together and screen them through a 16mm projector, creating a community-made film.

You’ll also use celluloid film strips to create a keychain to take home.
