Drop-in Workshop for Families: Creature Design and Pepper’s Ghost

An animated, bubbly exploration of puberty; documentary portraits of staunch characters, working women, and single mothers; and bite-sized narratives of teenage and young adult ennui — these six works paint a portrait of independent filmmaking in the 1970s and beyond through a liberated female lens. This dynamic program of short films, each of which has been preserved by the Academy Film Archive, represent Student Academy Award-winning films, rediscovered independent works, and personal documentary portraits of family. Total program runtime: 98 min.

In a Notting Hill hotel during Christmastime, Robina Rose collaborates with her friends to create a hypnotic, strangely beautiful world over the course of a night shift. The cinematic language, composed from a rich and warm color palette and meticulously designed, enigmatic soundscape, transports audiences into an impermanent dreamscape, free from the definition of both the real world and that of cinema.

Cyberpunk: A Virtual Production Experience

On the last Friday of every month, a Visual Description Tour within the museum’s Stories of Cinema exhibition, or additional galleries, will be offered at 2pm to align with our ongoing Stories of Cinema Drop-In Tours, which are offered every Friday from 1pm to 3pm.  An educator will provide a verbal overview for visitors who are blind or low vision. Visual Description is a way of using words to represent the visual world, of helping people form mental images of what they cannot see. All are welcome to join this gallery conversation.

American Sign Language (ASL) tours are always offered on the same day as our monthly Calm Morning program and accommodative Family Matinee film screening. <a href="https://www.academymuseum.org/exhibitions/stories-of-cinema-1">Stories of Cinema</a> galleries will be featured on tours at noon. Join a museum educator and ASL interpreter to experience cinema’s wide-ranging contributions to the world.
