You Oughta Know: The Films of Jane Campion

Explore the work of Oscar-winner Jane Campion with this series of her feature and short films.

Nov 4 – Nov 23, 2021

With an Oscar to her name, and one of only two women to have won the prestigious Cannes Palme d’Or, Jane Campion is one of the most internationally celebrated and idiosyncratic filmmakers working today. This retrospective, which includes her short films, showcases how Campion embraces the eclectic and uncomfortable with stories of women’s desires, tragedies, and steadfast individuality.

Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Campion first came to global attention in 1989 with Sweetie, a deeply personal tale of two sisters that is simultaneously tender and unsettling. Campion’s work continues to reside in this nexus, refusing to ignore humans’ complex impulses. She gained greater attention with the Oscar-winning film The Piano (1993), which was followed by movies starring the likes of Kate Winslet, Harvey Keitel, and Meg Ryan. From erotic comedy Holy Smoke (1999) to neo-noir thriller In the Cut (2003) to period piece Bright Star (2009), Campion’s career refutes expectations time and again.
