The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight

Writer-director Christopher Nolan followed up his hit Batman Begins (2005) with this ambitious, epically scaled superhero thriller, with Christian Bale’s Batman battling for the soul of Gotham City against the anarchic Joker, played in a startling, Oscar-winning supporting performance by Heath Ledger. The stellar supporting cast also includes Aaron Eckhart as the ill-fated D.A. Harvey Dent, Michael Caine as butler Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Batman’s confidant Lucius Fox, and Gary Oldman as the honest cop James Gordon. Seven of the film’s eight nominations went to its impeccable craft elements, with Richard King winning for his sound editing.
