Neil Jordan wrote and directed this romantic thriller set against the backdrop of the “Troubles” in Ireland, with Stephen Rea starring as an IRA soldier whose life becomes entwined with that of a British prisoner (Forest Whitaker). Stephen Woolley began his producing career with Jordan’s The Company of Wolves (1984) and the pair reunited for several projects including The Crying Game, which earned Woolley a Best Picture nomination. Jordan won for his original screenplay, and other nominations were earned by Jordan’s direction, Kant Pan’s film editing, and the performances of Rea and newcomer Jaye Davidson.
