The Battle of Algiers (La battaglia di Algeri

Writer-director Gillo Pontecorvo’s fact-based dramatic thriller about the conflict between Algerian rebels and French security forces is a classic of political cinema and received Oscar nominations for Foreign Language Film, Directing, and Original Screenplay. Pontecorvo collaborated with Ennio Morricone on the film’s score, which includes military rhythms that add to the film’s relentless pace and tension.
