Inuk Canadian filmmaker Nyla Innuksuk’s energetic debut premiered at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival and plunges us into a clique of four horror-obsessed teenage girls who cook up adventures to stave off boredom in their isolated community of Pangnirtung, an Inuit hamlet in the Canadian territory of Nunavut in the Arctic Ocean. When aliens invade the remote town, the savvy girls channel their knowledge gained from watching horror films for a wild, redemptive, and empowering outcome, reminiscent of classics Attack the Block (2011) and Wes Craven’s Scream (1996). Teens and genre film lovers are encouraged to join us for this fresh take on alien invasion from a new voice in filmmaking.
