A 10-year-old girl in Francoist Spain discovers a magical underworld that may or may not be real in one of writer-director Guillermo del Toro’s most richly imagined fantasies. The film earned six Academy Award nominations including Foreign Language Film, and won for its stunning Art Direction, Cinematography, and Makeup, with del Toro regular Doug Jones playing both the Faun and the Pale Man.
