May the 4th Celebration

Join us for a May the 4th Celebration! Participate in Star Wars–inspired interactive activities, photo ops, and book signings, and stay for a 40th anniversary screening of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi! Tickets to the film screening and book signings are sold separately.

Join the Academy Museum for a Star Wars–inspired May the 4th Celebration! 

The fun-filled day includes a chance to meet and take photos with R2-D2 and participate in Star Wars–inspired hands-on activities for all ages. 

We will also welcome Paul Hirsch, film editor of Star Wars: Episode IVA New Hope (1977) and Star Wars: Episode VThe Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Howard Kazanjian, producer of Star Wars: Episode VIReturn of the Jedi (1983), for two book signings. 

Purchase a ticket for the day’s final event—a screening of Star Wars: Episode VIReturn of the Jedi to commemorate the film’s 40th anniversary! 

Be sure to dress up in your best Star Wars–inspired costumes*!  

Take advantage of Star Wars-inspired treats at Fanny's (sold separately)! Throughout the day, the Academy Museum's café & restaurant will be offering a range of special themed menu items, like Wookie Cookies, Jawa Juice, kid-friendly snacks, a “Blue Milk” cocktail, and more. Popcorn will also be available for purchase before the screening at 7:30PM.

SCHEDULE 

1:30–3:30pm: Photos with R2-D2! 

Take photos with your favorite droid! 
Location: Sidney Poitier Grand Lobby 

1:30–5:30pm: May the 4th Art-Making Activities 
Create buttons, origami paper Star Wars–inspired characters, and glow in the dark galaxy slime! 
Location: Shirley Temple Education Studio 

4:30–6:30pm: Photos with R2-D2! 
Second chance to get a photo with R2-D2! 
Location: Sidney Poitier Grand Lobby 

5–7pm: Book Signings (Tickets to the book signings sold separately)

7:30pm: Screening (Tickets to the film screening sold separately)
Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi 40th Anniversary screening 
Location: David Geffen Theater, doors open at 6:30pm 

*The following are not allowed when dressing in costume at the Academy Museum: body paint, functional props or weapons, and/or full-face coverings. Guests in costume are subject to search at the discretion of Academy Museum staff at any time, and we reserve the right to refuse entry for any reason.
