It was obvious that filming Michael Crichton’s bestselling novel about the deadly mishaps at a theme park populated by cloned dinosaurs would require a great leap forward in VFX technology, and under the direction of Steven Spielberg, the groundbreaking combination of state-of-the art computer generated imagery and full-scale animatronic effects won its team (Dennis Muren, Stan Winston, Phil Tippett, and Michael Lantieri) a much-deserved Visual Effects Oscar. With a typically thrilling score by John Williams and Oscar-winning work from the sound and sound effects editing teams, Jurassic Park set a new, high bar for visualizing the impossible on the big screen.
