Actor-comedian Bo Burnham wrote and directed this hilarious and touching portrait of a tween girl (the miraculous Elsie Fisher) who copes with her insecurities by posting inspirational videos. A heightened but still frighteningly believable depiction of today’s youth, Burnham’s film also benefits from Josh Hamilton’s performance as one of the all-time great movie dads, an ensemble of vivid young actors, and the effectively offbeat original score by electronic composer Anna Meredith, her first for a feature film.

DIRECTOR: Bo Burnham. WRITTEN BY: Bo Burnham. CAST: Elsie Fisher, Josh Hamilton, Emily Robinson, Jake Ryan. 2018. 93 min. USA. Color. English. Rated R. DCP.
