Drop-In Workshops for Teens

Drop-In Workshops for Teens

Meet location manager Kokayi Ampah and learn about how film settings are found and why location management is an important part of the filmmaking process.

The Education team invites teens to join museum educators on the third Friday of every month to be inspired by the museum’s exhibitions and screenings, explore the museum, hang out, and get creative.

For our December workshop, we will be joined by Kokayi Ampah. As the first African American location manager and a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Ampah worked for 35 years in both television and film. Some noted projects include The Shawshank Redemption (1994), 8 Mile (2002), Million Dollar Baby (2004), and Straight Outta Compton (2015). Meet Ampah and get insight into his career and the profession of location management.

Meet us on Friday, December 16 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm in the Shirley Temple Education Studio on the museum’s Lower Level. Workshops are designed for teens ages 14 and up. Snacks will be provided.

All workshops are free with museum admission and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Museum admission is free for youth ages 17 and under with advance reservation.

Check back soon for upcoming workshop themes.

If you have any questions or need assistance planning your visit, please email museumeducation@oscars.org.
