Drop-In Workshop for Families: Mini Food Prop Making

Drop-In Workshop for Families: Mini Food Prop Making

Join us for a mini food prop making workshop.

The Education team invites families to join museum educators every month to be inspired by the museum’s exhibitions and screenings to learn, create, and have fun!

Our August Drop-In Workshops for Families are inspired by two films in our ongoing Family Matinees film series, The Princess and the Frog (2009) and Encanto (2021). What do these two films have in common? Food! Food plays key roles in both films.

The Princess and the Frog begins with Tiana and her father’s shared love for cooking which grows into her dream of owning her own restaurant serving food central to New Orleans like gumbo, beignets, and many more!

In Encanto, food gives us a glimpse into Maribel’s magical Colombian home, with foods like arepas and buñuelos. It is even a magical power that Maribel’s mother, Julieta, possesses to heal people with.

Families will create their own mini food props inspired by these movies and foods that are special to them.

Join us anytime from 12:30pm to 2:30pm in the Shirley Temple Education Studio on the museum’s Lower Level. Workshops are free with museum admission and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Workshop Dates:

Saturdays, August 5, 12, and 19

The Princess and the Frog screens on Saturday, August 5 at 11am; Encanto screens on Saturday, August 19 at 11am. Separate screening tickets are required.
