Calm Morning Hour creates an environment for all learners to enjoy less-sensory stimulating spaces with moderated sound and lighting displays.

Join filmmakers Jorge R. Gutierrez and Sandra Equihua for an interactive animation activity celebrating Día de los Muertos in our Stories of Cinema, Animation gallery. Instruction for this activity will be offered in Spanish and English with live ASL interpretation. 

Jorge R. Gutierrez
Emmy award-winning Jorge Gutierrez is a Mexican animator, painter, voice actor, writer, and director. Born in Mexico City and raised in Tijuana, Gutierrez has completed various films, cartoons, illustrations, and paintings exploring his love with Mexican pop and folk culture. He was the director and cowriter of the animated feature The Book of Life, produced by Guillermo del Toro for 20th Century Fox, which earned Gutierrez a 2014 Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Animated Feature Film. He was also the writer and director of the Emmy-nominated Son of Jaguar VR short for Google. Along with his wife and muse, Sandra Equihua, they created the multiple Emmy Award–winning animated television series El Tigre, The Adventures of Manny Rivera for Nickelodeon. Gutierrez is currently writing and directing his animated limited series Maya and the Three for Netflix. 

Sandra Equihua  
Emmy award-winning Sandra Equihua is a Tijuana-born artist, designer, and voice actress based in the city of Los Angeles. Equihua received her BFA in Graphic Design at IBERO University in Tijuana, Mexico and shortly after branched to character design for animated series and films. She has had the pleasure of working on projects at Sony, WB, Disney, and Nick Jr. In 2007 at Nickelodeon, with her husband Jorge Gutierrez, she created and designed the multiple Emmy award-winning animated series, El Tigre, The Adventures of Manny Rivera. In 2014, she and her husband once again collaborated to make the animated feature The Book of Life, produced by Guillermo del Toro for 20th Century Fox. She most recently designed and voiced characters for the new limited series Maya and the Three for Netflix.
