About the Exhibition
Cinema is a relatively new art form, yet it has developed tremendously since Auguste and Louis Lumière enraptured audiences with their first commercial screenings in 1895. Today a global film industry connects the visionary work of moviemakers to billions of moviegoers with ever-increasing means of access to the moving image. The future of cinema will continue to be determined by creators and audiences as together they participate in its evolving modes of expression and distribution. Presented in The Future of Cinema are the words of members of the film community who were invited to share their views of cinema’s horizons. Their statements and aspirations address artistry, technology, social impact, inclusion, and more. As visitors leave this final gallery in the Stories of Cinema exhibition, we hope these thoughts and insights will be carried beyond the museum walls and inspire and inspire those contributing to the future of cinema. This gallery is curated by Senior Exhibitions Curator Jenny He.
